Cheats and Tips

Cheats
When your told to start your engine, press the fire button. Then when it say press 'P' to pause the game and 'P' again to unpause the game. You'll finish the race instantly with the fastest lap time.

Before starting select the radio mode on the cd player and tune it to 065.4. You should be breaking the track records.

On the sound selection screen, choose the sound effects and select radio. This will cause the scenery to travel at twice the speed, yet the actual speed remains the same.

Before there was Need for Speed, before there was burnout, there was Jaguar XJ2200. A racing game in which you drive, as the name suggests, a Jaguar XJ2200. Your objective is to race through the 36 different laps and finish on the top of the league table. You are taken across twelve different countries each with its own interesting collection of tracks.

Graphics: The graphics are resonable, not outstanding, but they are far from poor. The repetitive nature of the background allows for the player to experience a sense of speed. Although, this gets quite old as you advance through the levels.

Sound: The sound is a strong point within this game, the songs that have been included allow for an enjoyable race experience. There is a selection of six songs, each catering for a different style of music.

Gameplay: The game is easy to play, with the controls being quite simple. Although, the disadvantage comes with the simplicity. Some of the tracks look basic on the map, but when turning through the hairpins, they become quite tricky. Also, when leaving the track and hitting a tree or sign, the car is just bounced back toward the track, there is no crash or slowing of the vehicle. You are also unable to select the type of car you are driving, but this would then require a change in the name of the game. A redeeming point of the game is the ability of the car to be damaged. This requires the player to repair damaged parts and if this is not done, the car can fail.

Lifespan: Although it is a smoothly produced game, unless hooked by collection of flowing and sharp turns, this game gets old quickly. Once beaten, it would be hard to pick up this game again. Although you can choose your next desitination, there is only one mode of play, and it allows for no real expansion.

Overall: This is a fun game to play with a friend in a split screen mode, but the single player mode allows for only one single mode which once beaten gets old fast. The music is quite addictive, which makes it more enjoyable.

A good alternative to Lotus II

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I was a big fan of this game. As stated in Submeg's review this game does become boring in single player mode after completing the championship, so doesn't really contain any lifespan beyond completing the game. But it has more left to give in the split screen two player mode.

The two player mode game myself and a friend hours of fun. In two player mode you enter a championship where both of you are team mates racing against other teams and against each other. This adds a bit more to the gameplay compared to other similar racing games with a split screen two player option such as Lotus, as you need to think more tactically than just focussing on the win. You also have to consider the teams points in the championship compared to the other teams and think of damage limitations if one of you is doing badly in a race.

This is definitely a great alternative to the Lotus series and adds the extra team element to the two player mode. As Submeg also mentioned the music is really good, as is the graphics (for the time). This is definitely one of the better racing games the Amiga has to offer.
