A little bit of IK+ anyone?

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
This is a little gem of a game. Quite similar in style to IK+, but it expands upon it in many ways. The movements and controls are similar and should take no time to master. The game is similar, defeat your opponent - in this case there is only one. There are also training levels, these are reached by defeat your opponent to progress to the next screen. Here, you can choose which discipline to focus upon, at times having the feel of Mortal Kombat.

Graphics: These graphics are quite nice, the levels are drawn with great detail, even the texture upon the bricks in the background can be seen. The backgrounds for the intermission screens are excellent, alive with marbleized colour.

Sound: The music that is present in the menus is excellent, and the sound effect in game are also good. The music ties in well with the game.

Gameplay: This section would score higher, although, in game there are occasions where you are standing right next to your opponent but are unable to inflict damage upon them. The controls at times seem sticky, but apart from that the game plays smoothly. There are many different training regimes to experience and so there is a nice depth to the game.

Lifespan: This game is a good catch, not only does it have a variety of opponents, but it also incorporates a two player mode. This allows you to battle your friends to determine who is the better master.

Overall: The quality of the graphics and sound allow this game to excel. If the controls were slightly smoother, this game would be an all out winner.

Great Beat 'Em Up!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
I still remember discovering this game and being blown away by the graphics. Compared to other fighting games I had so far encountered on the Amiga A500 at the time this game looked very polished with very well drawn and detailed graphics, and the overall game was very nicely designed.

Another aspect of the game is the variety of gameplay. In single player mode you have to work your way through a series of opponents joined together via a story. The selection of opponents you encounter along the way are all quite different, in terms of visual look and their style of fighting, and the enemies even include a fight against a guard dog!

As Submeg mentions the controls can sometimes feel like they get delayed or the collision detection isn't always working perfectly, but it is a very small flaw for what was otherwise a great beat 'em up.

If you like fighting games than I highly recommend you give this one a try. You will like it and the graphics will bring a smile to your face, even after all this time.

...
I was playing this game a few years back (90's) and my wife was watching kickboxer (j.c.vandamme) anyway just as i was watching the intro, JcVD was outside the warrior buriel temple doing the very same moves featured in this intro i was gob smacked to say the least!

The intro on this game for me was far far better than the game ever was with many other games beating this one inc IK and many others!
