Left, right, step, duck. Quick thinking and lightning reflexes are required to be a boxer. This is showcased well within this game. The computer is fast, but you have to be faster.
Graphics: The graphics are ok, the view is from side on, which means that only one side of the boxers can be seen. This allows great detail to be given to the bodies of the boxers and to the background. Although, this is also its downfall, as you can only see one side of the action.
Sound: The sound are also ok, there is the occassional yell from a manager or trainer, the ring of the bell, the "oooh" from the crowd and the sound of a heavy blow landing thickly onto your opponent. These all allow for a certain atmosphere to be created within the game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is average, there are only two movements of directions avaialble, forward or back. This makes it difficult, as to avoid a punch, you cannot side step, or sway from side to side. This means your ability to think fast and have an escape plan must be present. The controls are easy enough, but this alone does not make the game easy. Your opponents move fast, and without the correct combinations of moves, you will fall and fast.
It also seems that there is no way to view the different attributes of each boxer or be able to increase them. This constrictive option significantly detracts from the gameplay.
Lifespan: Once you have completed the single player mode, it would be difficult to want to pick up this game again. Although, the increases in difficulty of your opponents means that you won't be completing this game in a hurry. There is the added bonus of being able to play with two players, so you are able to challenge your friends. Perfect for a round of laughs.
Overall: This game looks and feels very nice and is certainly one of the better boxing simulations. You will need speed and forward thinking to win this game. A perfect arcade style game.
