Features Drag and Drop columns, AutoSize(tm) columns and disjointed record selection. n Printing-print individual records graphically. n Selective Query commands ("Hide Record", "Switch Hidden Records", "Show All Records"): "Hide Record" command (Record menu) hides the current record(s). Therefore, you can manually hide records and perform a query, or perform many queries, one after the other, to create a new set. n Find improvements-find requester is now modeless, allowing you to keep the requester on-screen while you are editing. n Speed improvements-Open and Save command (Project menu). n Public Screens-you can now use Datastore on any public screen. n Many general improvements-for overall greater reliability and efficiency. List View This is very useful for viewing and editing multiple records on-screen. step 1 Open a database that has many records (the supplied Amiga Format 1994 example database is ideal). step 2 Ensure you are in Edit mode (choose "Edit Records" from the Edit menu), then choose "List View" command from the View menu. The "List View" shows each field name as a column heading and each record as a row. Selecting Records in List View Select a record by clicking the grey record number on the left of the window. If you wish to select multiple records, you can click and drag the mouse up or down. Click a record, hold down the Shift key and click another record to select all records between the two points. Hold down the Ctrl key when clicking, to select a record without de-selecting any previous selections. Once records are selected, you can delete them, cut or copy them, or hide them using the "Hide Record" command (Record menu). Editing Fields Double-click a field to place a text cursor inside so that you can edit the contents. "List View" fields operate the same as standard Workbench text gadgets and therefore retain the same keyboard controls: KEY DOES Ctrl Q Restores contents Ctrl X Deletes contents Shift Left Moves cursor to beginning of text gadget Shift Right Moves cursor to end of text gadget Del Deletes character under cursor Backspace Deletes character to left of cursor Special Features Re-sizing Field columns: Move the mouse pointer over the dividing lines between fields and a double-ended 're-sizing' pointer will appear: Hold down the left mouse button, drag the mouse left or right to change the size of the column and then release the mouse button. Drag and Drop columns: Move the mouse pointer over the left side of a column heading (field name) and a Drag and Drop pointer will appear: To move the field, hold down the left mouse button and drag the pointer to the left of the field where you want it to appear. AutoSize(tm) Columns-expand and shrink some, or all, of the columns by double- clicking the right side of a column heading: OPERATION DOES Double-click Expands the column to the size of the largest field entry. Ctrl Double-click Expands all of the columns to the size of the largest field entry. Shift Double-click Reduces the size of a column to the width of the field heading. Shift Ctrl Double-click Reduces the size of all columns to the width of the field headings. Selective Query Commands Datastore 2 provides an easy way of scanning through and hiding records manually; you can then export, print or apply queries to them. Select a record(s) in "List View" mode and choose "Hide Record" (Record menu) to hide them from the currently viewed records. Choose "Switch Hidden Records" (Record menu) to show the hidden records and hide the previously viewed records. Choose "Show All Records" to quickly show all records in the database. Queries are now only applied to the records currently viewed, and therefore several queries can be applied, one after the other, to provide a more specific sub-set of records. Printing Records Colour graphics are restricted by the number of colours your Amiga supports. For example, non-AGA Amigas can only print graphics using a maximum of 16 colours; whereas, AGA Amigas can print graphics in up to 256 colours. Choose "Form View" (View menu) and choose "Print Record" (Project menu) to display the "Print Record" requester. By default, this requester only prints the current record. Click the All radio button if you wish to print all records in the database (or specify a range in the text gadget). Each record is printed on a separate page. Click the Setup button to display the Workbench Printer GFX Preferences program. This lets you specify whether you wish to print in colour, black and white, or greyscale (as well as many other options). Public Screens Choose Screen ("Change Settings", Settings menu) to display the "Screen Mode"requester. Click the "Public Screen" pop-up gadget to show a list of the available public screens. Select a screen name and click OK to open Datastore on the selected screen. To re-open Datastore on its own screen, type Datastore in the adjacent text gadget, click the "Screen Mode" button to set the screen type and then click OK.
